And, they come running!
This year, each Thursday afternoon kids and volunteers are coming to Seneca after school.
(Well, kids come everyday unofficially, but we try to have something organized on Thursdays.)
We are excited to start a simple reading program this fall. Kelsey is utilizing what she’s learning in her education classes at BVU, and is bringing a new set of books each week for the kids. This week, the genre was fairy tales. The kids earn points for each book they read, and the older kids get points for being Readers, as they read books to the younger kids.
We’ve continued working on craft projects this fall. The Bridge received a grant from Kiwanis this year in order to start youth workshops at the neighborhood centers. The workshops are meant to teach the kids basic skills, allow them to create things, and to build relationships with mentors in the process.
This week, the younger kids worked with Diana on fleece blankets, practicing cutting and tying.
